Exam Format
Questions
Two separate papers, Math A and Math B. Part I (85 points) mixes single-choice, multiple-select and fill-in questions at 5 points each: 6 + 6 + 5 on Math A and 7 + 5 + 5 on Math B in 2025 and 2026. Part II (15 points) is one mixed question set that combines a 3-point choice item with written answers where you must show your working.
Duration
100 minutes per paper. For the January 2027 sitting, Math A is on January 22 and Math B on January 24, both 09:20 to 11:00.
Scoring
100 raw points per paper, reported as 0-15 levels (級分). One level equals the average raw score of the top 1% of candidates divided by 15: 5.72 points for Math A and 6.21 for Math B in 2026. Multiple-select questions give partial credit option by option, fill-in answers score only when every blank is right, and nothing is subtracted below zero on any question.
Calculator
No calculator allowed: calculators are on the list of prohibited items. A ruler, set square, protractor and compass are permitted, and each paper ends with a page of reference formulas and values.
Study Strategies
- 1Decide early whether you sit Math A, Math B or both. They are separate optional subjects with different grade 11 content, and each university department chooses which subjects it uses for thresholds and screening, so let your target departments' requirements make the call.
- 2Treat every multiple-select option as its own true-or-false judgement. Options are graded independently, each wrong option costs two-fifths of the item on a five-option question, and a blank option is graded too, so reason through all five statements rather than marking only the ones you are sure of.
- 3Practise the fill-in format until exact answers are automatic: every blank must be right to score, answers go in digit by digit in the printed format, and the shape of the answer boxes is a free check on your result.
- 4Write full working on the Part II question set. Its written answers must show the calculation or reasoning, or marks are deducted, and the 15 points there are worth three Part I questions.
- 5Work recent official papers from 2022 onward under 100-minute, calculator-free conditions. Problems are set in real-life and academic contexts with charts and long statements, so reading speed and hand arithmetic decide as much as the mathematics, and CEEC publishes every paper with answers and marking principles.
How Math Zen Helps
Math Zen offers 35 GSAT-style templates across the ten areas of its 學測 path: polynomials, exponentials and logarithms, sequences, counting, probability, statistics, trigonometry, lines and circles, vectors, and matrices. Adaptive difficulty keeps calculator-free practice at exam pace, and the step-by-step hints rehearse the written reasoning the mixed question set rewards.
