Baccalauréat Mathematics

French Baccalauréat mathematics specialty (spécialité mathématiques) exam taken in terminale. Covers analysis, sequences, the exponential and logarithm functions, integrals, probability, and space geometry.

Exam Format

Questions

Typically 3 to 5 independent exercises, each covering a different part of the program (analysis, probability, space geometry, sequences). Some sessions include a multiple-choice (QCM) or true/false exercise.

Duration

4 hours.

Scoring

Graded out of 20 points. The mathematics specialty carries a coefficient of 16 toward the final Baccalauréat.

Calculator

A calculator with exam mode ("mode examen") is permitted throughout the exam.

Study Strategies

  • 1Master the analysis core: limits, derivatives, the exponential and natural logarithm functions, and integrals, since these appear in nearly every session.
  • 2Practice sequences thoroughly, including proof by induction (raisonnement par récurrence), convergence, and explicit versus recursive forms, as a dedicated exercise is almost always included.
  • 3Drill probability: conditional probability and tree diagrams, the binomial distribution, and continuous distributions with the law of large numbers.
  • 4Work space geometry with vectors, lines, and planes using coordinates and the scalar product (produit scalaire), a recurring exercise type.
  • 5Write rigorous, well-justified solutions: French graders reward clear logical steps, proper notation, and explicit justification, and partial credit rewards correct method even when the final answer is wrong.

How Math Zen Helps

Math Zen covers the sequences, derivatives, exponential and logarithm functions, integrals, probability, and vector geometry at the heart of the Baccalauréat mathematics specialty. As Bac-specific templates are introduced, you will be able to practice the multi-part exercise format and the rigorous justification the exam rewards.
